Wiring & Electrical Work Done Right the First Time

From a single outlet that’s stopped working to a full home rewire, the quality of your electrical wiring affects everything — safety, functionality, and the long-term reliability of your home’s electrical system. Capstone Electric has been handling residential and commercial wiring work throughout Dripping Springs and Central Texas for over 20 years, and we bring the same level of care and precision to every job regardless of size.

Whether you need to add outlets in a new home office, replace outdated two-prong receptacles throughout an older home, install GFCI protection in wet areas, upgrade to smart switches, or rewire a room during a remodel — our licensed team handles it cleanly, safely, and to code.

We also install whole-home surge protectors, USB outlets, and dedicated circuits for appliances, EV chargers, and home office equipment. If your wiring isn’t keeping up with the way you use your home, we’ll help you figure out the right solution and get it done.

Outlets, Switches & Wiring FAQs

Outlet

There are several signs that your home’s wiring may be due for an update. Frequently tripped breakers, flickering lights, outlets that don’t work, discolored or warm switch plates, and a persistent burning smell are all red flags. Homes built before the 1980s may have aluminum wiring or older wiring types that don’t meet current code and can pose safety risks. If your home still has two-prong ungrounded outlets throughout, that’s another indicator that the wiring hasn’t been updated in some time. A professional electrical inspection is the most reliable way to know where you stand.

GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. These are the outlets with the small test and reset buttons you typically see in bathrooms and kitchens. They’re designed to shut off power instantly if they detect a ground fault — which can happen when water or moisture comes into contact with an electrical circuit. Current electrical code requires GFCI protection in bathrooms, kitchens, garages, exterior outlets, crawl spaces, and anywhere else near a water source. If your home is older and doesn’t have GFCI outlets in these locations, it’s worth having them installed — it’s a relatively simple upgrade that significantly improves safety.

Yes — adding outlets is one of the most common requests we get, and it’s a straightforward job in most cases. Whether you need additional outlets in a home office, a bedroom, a garage workshop, or an outdoor area, Capstone Electric can run the necessary wiring and install new outlets that meet current code. In some cases, adding outlets may require adding a new circuit to your panel depending on the existing load — we’ll assess that as part of the job and let you know upfront.

A 15-amp outlet is the standard receptacle found in most living areas of a home. A 20-amp outlet looks similar but has a small horizontal slot in addition to the vertical ones, and it’s designed for circuits that carry heavier loads — like kitchen appliances, garage tools, or home office equipment. Installing a 20-amp outlet requires a 20-amp circuit with the correct gauge wiring. If you’re running high-draw appliances or equipment and experiencing tripped breakers, upgrading to a dedicated 20-amp circuit may be the right solution.

Some homeowners are comfortable replacing a straightforward outlet or switch, and in Texas there’s no law prohibiting a homeowner from doing electrical work on their own primary residence. That said, mistakes in electrical work — miswired outlets, improper grounding, or connections that aren’t secure — can create shock hazards and fire risks that aren’t always immediately obvious. If you’re not confident in what you’re doing, or if the wiring you’re working with looks old, unusual, or complicated, it’s worth calling a licensed electrician. The cost of having it done right is almost always less than the cost of fixing a problem down the road.

I’ve have used Scott previously in an electric issue we had, and he was extremely proficient in resolving the issue. I recently had lost power to the house from a large tree branch that ripped everything down to the meter box. In a panic I called another local company ( Tejas Electric), which wanted to charge $2400 for what Scott did in an emergency for approximately $2000 less. His team worked efficiently and I was up and running in just 2 1/2 hours. No price gouging, just honest dedication to the community. Highly recommended

Steve came over during the holiday to install a ceiling fan, install a new outlet and repair a couple of switches. As usual, he called first to confirm the time. Great company. Great people. Have used them several times. Highly recommended.

Outstanding electrical install and repair outfit! Local small business, family owned and operated. Scott was very helpful over the phone providing recommendations and answering questions, and then scheduled work to be performed. Two electricians arrived on-time, performed the install and then cleaned up the area. Highly professional fit and finish. Will use again for future electrical jobs! A+++++
